Two Taken to Upstate Following Stabbing on Halloween in City of Cortland

Cortland Police say just before 10pm on Halloween, officers responded to the area of 6 Delaware Ave. for a reported domestic disturbance that possibly involved a weapon. Police say witnesses reported there were multiple individuals yelling and fighting outside the residence.

When officers arrived at the scene, they did not locate anyone involved, but found evidence that suggested a gathering in and around the property had just taken place. Two people were detained at the scene, police say, but no victims were located during this time.

Cortland Police say a short time later however, they were notified of two people who arrived at Guthrie Cortland Medical Center with stab wounds believed to have occurred during the incident at 6 Delaware Ave.

Both victims were stabilized at Guthrie, but were transported to Upstate University Hospital due to the severity of the wounds. Cortland Police say they were listed in critical condition at the time. The following morning though, police say they were listed in stable condition at Upstate.

The investigation into the found determined 22 year old Alex Green of Cortland, was involved in a physical altercation which led to both victims sustaining stab wounds. Officers took Green into custody at the residence without further incident.

Green was charged with 2 Counts of Assault in the 2nd, a Felony, and 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th.

Cortland Police say the investigation remains ongoing at this time. Anyone who may have information about the case is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Sean Byrnes at Sbyrnes@CortlandNY.gov.
