Two Special Event Permits & One Sound Device Permit Issued by Common Council
The City of Cortland Common Council voted to approve two special event permits and one sound device permit during their meeting Tuesday evening. The council voted to issue special event permits for the City of Cortland Youth Bureau’s annual Trunk or Treat event on October 25th and the Cortlandville Masonic Lodge Chicken BBQ on October 4th. A sound device permit was granted for the use of a bullhorn for another upcoming Indivisible Cortland protest.
The City of Cortland Youth Bureau will host their annual Trunk of Treat on Saturday, October 25th on Main Street between Orchard and Port Watson Streets from 2pm to 4pm. Mayor Steve says the event is expected to be a big one and highlighted how great an event it is. A rain date will be Sunday, October 26th. The Youth Bureau is still accepting local businesses and organizations to participate. You may contact Heather Johnson for a registration form at HJohnson@Cortland.org.
The Cortlandville Masonic Lodge will be holding a Chicken BBQ during Pumpkinfest on Saturday October 4th until about 3pm. The BBQ will take place at the parking lot between City Hall and the Cortland Fire Department on Court Street. All proceeds will be donated to the City of Cortland Police Department.
Lastly, a sound device permit was issued to Indivisible Cortland for a planned protest they will have on Saturday, October 18th from 1pm to 2:30pm. The permit allows the use of up to two bullhorns. No major issues were brought up by the council in issuing the sound permit with Mayor Steve adding they have been well-organized in previous protests. The protest will once again be held at Courthouse Park in Downtown Cortland. Councilmember Lane added that in the previous protest at the park the organization did not use a bullhorn; they were also approved for the use of one during the last protest in Cortland.
