Two Public Hearings Announced For January’s Homer Town Board Meeting
For the Town of Homers January Town Board meeting on Wednesday, January 14th at 6:30pm, there will be two public hearings prior to the start of their first meeting in 2026. The first public hearing will be in regard to a proposed local law relating to winter parking at the Town Hall parking lot. The second is the need for the town to annex another property on Wolf Road from the Village of Homer.
“We changed our parking in our lot late Spring. We got the signs up.” Supervisor Mike Park said. “We made the [decision] that there will be no parking in our parking lot from the months November through April from midnight to 7am.”
Park added this law will allow the Homer Police Department to enforce the parking lot regulations, if it is needed. That enforcement includes ticketing vehicles and if necessary, tow vehicles. The local law will now give the legal authority for the Homer Police Department.
“We’re not looking to ticket the people just to ticket them. If they’re parking there and they get a ticket and if they come and talk to [Homer Police] and they’re decent about it, most likely it’ll be waived.” Park added.
The main reason for the parking restrictions is to help with snow plowing in the Town Hall parking lot. With no parking overnight at the parking lot reduces the time it takes to plow the lot and possibility of property being damaged.
The second public hearing will be for the need of the Town of Homer to annex another property from the Village of Homer on Wolf Road. Town Attorney Dan Ellis explained to the town board during their December meeting the reason why.
Ellis says the current three parcels the town and village both approved to be annexed from the village to the town would be separate from the town itself, leading to a technical creation of a second Village of Homer with the fourth parcel of land between the current town and newly annexed parcels. Ellis added he will speak with the property owner on if they’d like to be annexed by the town; the name of the property owner was not disclosed. Homer Village Mayor Pat Clune added the village has no issues with the annexation of a fourth property.
