They say the fire happened just after 11:00 p.m. in the Fall Creek neighborhood on Linn Street in Ithaca.

Crews arrived on scene and found a heavy fire burning near the middle of the home and spreading to an attached garage. Multiple hose lines were deployed  to control the fire and homes just feet away were protected.

Heavy winds and freezing temperatures made extinguishing the fire very difficult.

Thankfully, there were no injuries but extensive damage was done to both the house and garage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but the Ithaca Fire Department is reminding residents to be very careful using any type of space heater and always have working smoke detectors.
