Investigators from the Cortland County Sheriff’s Department have identified and charged two local juveniles as the source of the anonymous gun threats made Saturday evening (August 10) to the Cortlandville Walmart.
Initial reports were made by an employee of the store, who received two separate phone calls indicating there was a person inside who had a gun.
Employees immediately called 911 and personnel with the County Communications Center dispatched the Sheriff’s Department.
They were assisted at the scene by state and city police.
Investigators have been able to determine that this was an isolated incident, according to Lt. Todd Caufield in the Criminal Investigation Division.
Both juveniles are being petitioned to the Cortland County Probation Department, with charges including Falsely Reporting an Incident in the 3rd Degree and Conspiracy in the 6th Degree.
Their identities will not be released as per state law.
