Next month (March) there will be not one, but two free snowmobiling weekends for all out-of-state and Canadian snowmobilers. Those weekends will be March 1st through the 3rd and the 8th through the 10th. The announcement comes as Governor Hochul works to encourage visitors to take advantage of the state’s 10,500 miles of snowmobile trails.

“New York State offers some of the nation’s most extraordinary and scenic trails for snowmobilers to explore and enjoy. These two free weekends in March provide a great opportunity for visitors try a new ride along any of the state’s thousands of miles of public snowmobile trails and experience the natural beauty of New York’s great outdoors.” New York Department of Environmental Conservation Basil Seggos said in a release.

During the free weekends, the registration required will be waived for already registered and insured out-of-state snowmobilers. Those who plan to take advantage of the free weekend must operate a snowmobile that is registered in their home state or providence and must carry applicable insurance.

Hochul’s Office says the free weekends help boost tourism within the state and shows the state’s commitment to the industry.

According to the New York State Snowmobile Association (NYSSA) Public Trail Map, a majority of the snowmobile trails open in the state are located in the Adirondack Region. You can see the full interactive map from NYSSA, HERE.
