The New York Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee (GTSC) are holding several free child seat inspections around the state this month, with two dates taking place in Cortland County.
The first will be held on Saturday, September 21st in the parking lot of the Cortlandville Walmart from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
The second is on October 19 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Beaudry Park.
For information and registration details on either, contact Rebecca Smith at the Cortland County Health Department by calling (607) 758-5509.
“As a father and grandfather, I urge all parents and caregivers to take advantage of this free service. Learning how to properly install and use child safety equipment only takes a few minutes, but it can make a lifesaving difference in a crash.” –DMV Commissioner and GTSC Chair Mark J.F. Schroeder
At these free inspection events, trained technicians from state and local law enforcement agencies will help educate parents and caregivers on how to select a child restraint that will fit their child, fit their vehicle and be used correctly every time.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), child safety seats reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71% for infants and by 54% for toddlers in passenger vehicles.
Correction: The date of the first free child seat inspections was originally stated as September 19th but it is on October 19th in the same location from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Beaudry Park.
