Two high school students from Cortland City Schools recently visited Albany to attend the Students Inside Albany (SIA) conference from May 19th to the 22nd. The two students, Mallory May and Jack McGovern, were selected by the League of Women Voters of Cortland County. The conference is organized by the League of Women Voters of New York State.

The conference is designed to increase student awareness of their responsibilities in representative government. It also provides students with an opportunity to engage with elected officials and other students from throughout the state.

Mallory May is a junior at Cortland High, and applied to attend the conference. The League of Women Voters says she viewed the conference as an opportunity to increase her understanding of government and her leadership skills, and be better prepared for college. May is currently the VP of the Class of 2025, President of International Club, and Student Council Committee as well as a member of National Honor Society and Science Honor Society.

John (Jack) McGovern is a senior at Cortland High School, who is an honor student and is part of the advanced degree program at TC3. McGovern is planning to study filmmaking in college. He has been involved in political activities, frequent dinner table political discussions, petitioning for candidates, and making videos for political campaigns.

The conference is supported by the League of Women Voters of Cortland County, Zonta, Cortland Community Social Club, and the League of Women Voters Education Foundation.
