Local News

Cortland County Sheriff’s Deputies arrested two men for driving while intoxicated Sunday.

Just before 9:30 Sunday evening, Deputies stopped a car on Elm Street in the Village of McGraw after the driver was found to be operating without his lights on.

During the stop, it was determined the driver 32-year-old Eric Smith of 57 West Academy Street, McGraw was operating under the influence of alcohol.

Smith has a prior conviction for driving while intoxicated. He refused a breath test and was charged with a felony count of driving without a license, felony D-W-I, and other vehicle and traffic violations.

Smith was arraigned in Cortlandville Town Court and sent to Cortland County Jail on $500 Cash bail or $1,000 bond.

Then just after 11 o’clock Sunday night, Deputies responded to a one-car rollover crash on Route 41 in Homer.

The driver 20-year-old Jonathon Slater of 6554 Glen Haven Road was transported to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse for undisclosed injuries. Slater was later charged with D-W-I.

He was issued tickets and is due to appear in Court on June 9th.
