Multiple candidates have announced their intention to run for New York’s 22nd Congressional seat being vacated by Republican Richard Hanna.
Former Broome County Legislator George Phillips announced Monday that he will run.
Phillips ran for Congress in 2008 and 2010, earning 48 percent of the vote in the second race which he lost to Democratic incumbent Maurice Hinchey.
He is currently the Dean of Students at Seton Catholic Central High School and an adjunct professor at SUNY Broome.
Hanna announced last month that he will not be running for re-election this year.
Democrat and former Oneida County legislator David Gordon announced his candidacy last week in Utica.
Gordon of New Hartford is currently the President and CEO of Partners Trust Insurance Agency in Utica.
Republican Assemblywoman Claudia Tenney, also from New Hartford, announced that she would run back in November.
