Two Arrested For Multiple Burglaries in City of Cortland


Several burglary complaints came into the City of Cortland Police Department recently for student housing for students at SUNY Cortland while the students were away on Spring break. Cortland Police say those burglaries took place on Lincoln Ave, Monroe Heights, and Clayton Ave. in the City of Cortland.

Multiple detectives were assigned to investigate the multiple burglary complaints. Investigators were able to find leads which resulted in a large amount of the stolen property being recovered by officers.

The investigation led to the arrest of two individuals, 34 year old Troy A. Schermerhorn and 41 year old Andrew J. Fiorentini. Both men were charged with 3 counts of Burglary in the 2nd, 3 counts of Conspiracy in the 4th, both Felonies, 3 counts of Petit Larceny, and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property in the 5th, both Misdemeanors.

Fiorentini was additionally charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence, a Felony, and Criminal Mischief in the 4th, a Misdemeanor. He was arraigned and then sent to Cortland County Jail on no bail.

Schermerhorn was arraigned and also sent to Cortland County Jail on $3,000 cash bail and $6,000 bond. Both are due in Cortland City Court on Friday.
