Two Arrested After Theft of Power Tools From Maintenance Room

Cortland Police responded to a reported burglary that occurred at 42 Church Street in the City of Cortland, the property is operated by the Cortland Housing Authority. Cortland Police say two suspects had broken into a locked maintenance storage room located in the basement of the building around 3:30 in the morning on January 18th.

An investigation identified the two suspects as Matthew J. Barber and Jodi L. Hamilton, both of Cortland, as the suspects in the burglary investigation. Cortland Police found and arrested Barber with charges of Burglary in the 3rd, a Felony, Petit Larceny, and Conspiracy in the 5th, both Misdemeanors.

Officers arrested Hamilton for Criminal Trespass, a Misdemeanor, as she had been previously issued a trespass notice forbidding her to be on the property. Cortland Police say the investigation remains ongoing and further arrests are pending.

Both Barber and Hamilton were eventually released with Barber to appear in Cortland City Court at the end of the month and Hamilton with an appearance ticket.
