Two have been arrested after a bank robbery occurred at Tompkins Bank on Main Street in the City of Cortland late Friday morning.

Officers have arrested 53 year old Daniel A. Thilburg of Maine, NY, and 48 year old Angela M. Schmidt of Cortland.

An alarm was issued by a teller of Tompkins Bank after Thilburg handed the teller a note demanding cash and fled the scene with several thousands of dollars of a bank robbery. Responding officers were informed this was not a false alarm.

Cortland Police, Sheriff, and State Police combed the area of Downtown Cortland moments after the alarm. CPD also began to look into the multiple surveillance cameras throughout downtown and found Thilburg did not act alone in the robbery. Cameras showed a driver of a white Mitsubishi, identified as Schmidt, who helped Thilburg flee.

A description of the vehicle and male suspect was put out to the public to help identify who it may be. Information gathered from the public assisted in the identification of both suspects. Officers were able to locate and arrest both.

Daniel A. Thilburg was arrested at Central Ave. and Greenbush Street around 7:30pm Friday, and Angela M. Schmidt was found at 25 Court Street around 8:45pm. Both have been charged with Robbery in the 3rd, Grand Larceny in the 3rd, both Felonies, and Conspiracy in the 5th, a Misdemeanor.

Thilburg was arranged and sent to Cortland County Jail on no bail, his next court date is June 28th. Schmidt was arraigned and released to Alternatives to Incarceration with her next court date on the same as Thilburg’s date.
