Two Airlifted, Six Others Taken Via Ambulance After Three Vehicle Crash in Tompkins County

State Police in Ithaca responded to a three vehicle crash back on Tuesday, August 1st on Route 13 in the Town of Newfield.


An investigation conducted by Trooper’s showed all three vehicles were traveling northbound on Route 13. A Honda Odyssey had stopped to make a left turn and the vehicle behind the Odyssey, a Chevy Traverse, had also slowed down. The third vehicle, a Ford Escape, did not and rear ended the Chevy pushing it into the Honda.

The operator of the Honda, 49 year old Jennifer A. Foote did not report any injuries to first responders. One passenger of the vehicle, a 15-year old, was injured and transported to Cayuga Medical Center (CMC) via ambulance. The third passenger in the Honda also did not report any injuries.

For the Chevy Traverse that was operated by 61 year old Armando G. Acero of Las Vegas, he was taken via ambulance to CMC for complaints of pain. His passenger, a 29 year old, was also transported to CMC by ambulance.

The third vehicle, the Ford Escape that was operated by 24 year old Chantee M. Besse, had the most injuries. Besse was transported to Upstate Medical Center by ambulance for pain. There were four other passengers in the vehicle who were also transported to regional hospitals:

  • A 3 year old was transported via helicopter to Upstate Medical Center for a head injury
  • A 56 year old was transported via helicopter to Robert Packer Hospital for reported pain
  • A 7 year old was transported via ambulance to Upstate Medical Center for a hip/leg injury
  • A 10 year old was transported via ambulance for a lower leg injury

Assisting State Police in the vehicle crash were: Newfield Fire Company, Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, Bangs Ambulance, Village of Trumansburg EMS, Spencer EMS, Schuyler EMS, Guthrie Air, and LifeNet.

The accident remains under investigation by State Police.
