Just after 6 in the morning on Sunday, July 7th, Genoa Fire was dispatched to a barn fire on McAllister Road in the Town of Genoa with animals inside the barn. Genoa Fire says their first arriving Chief Officers confirmed a working structure fire that was also threatening to extend to a nearby barn.

Genoa Fire says the department called in for additional resources and the evacuation of the cattle was already underway inside the burning barn. Firefighters worked to stop the fire from spreading to the barn next door. Work also began on knocking down the fire. Three water tanker fill sites were used during the fire.

Assisting the Genoa Fire Department were King Ferry, Lock Fire & Rescue, Moravia, Scipio, Long Hill, Poplar Ridge Aurora, Sempronius, Lansing, Groton, and New Hope Fire Departments. Additional support was provided by Southern Cayuga Instant Aid, and Four Town Ambulance.

No injuries were reported or loss of animals. Genoa Fire was returned to service around 11 am that morning. Additional assistance was provided by the Cayuga County Office of Emergency Services.
