A Tully man was arrested on Sunday (June 28) after he was pulled over and found in possession of illegal fireworks valued at around $2,700.
State police stopped 25-year-old Casey Jean just before 1 pm upon seeing him commit a vehicle infraction on Interstate 81 in the town of Dickinson.
He was handed a misdemeanor and directed to reappear in court later this month.
The town of Dickinson is less than 20 miles from the border with Pennsylvania where fireworks can be purchased lawfully. Most remain prohibited in New York, with the exception of certain “sparkling devices.” (more info here)
Governor Cuomo has directed NYSP to temporarily crackdown on the possession and use of illegal pyrotechnics ahead of the holiday weekend, amid skyrocketing complaints in recent weeks.
Increased enforcement efforts are expected to last through at least Saturday.
