U.S. Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand have announced over $11 million in FEMA funding for local fire departments across New York State.

Among them, a pair of companies in Cortland County:

Truxton Fire Department

$261,904
City of Cortland

$47,619
The funding comes as part of the federal Assistance to Firefighters grant program.

According to a Facebook post earlier this month by Truxton FD, their award is the result of several years of grant writing with the help of TenKate Grant services — Mike TenKate is deputy chief of Cortland City FD.

It will help purchase a brand new truck to replace two aging members of the fleet; one was manufactured in 1975 and the other in 1986.

“In the coming months there will be some hard choices to produce the right decisions for the Truxton Fire Department and in the end we will have a more dependable fleet to bring us into the future,” reads the post. “Our thanks to Mike TenKate, Nancy Tenkate and the whole grant writing team for this excellent outcome.
In the coming month’s, we will look for your continued support as make those hard choices. Thank you friends!”
