Truxton Charter School has scheduled two upcoming open houses for Thursday, March 19 from 5:30 – 7 pm and Saturday, April 25 from 10 am to Noon.
In a release, school officials said the following:
“Come visit our charter school and learn all about what makes us unique! Speak with teachers, parents, and board members. Tour the school and meet our guinea pigs Cinnamon and Oreo!
Enjoy some light refreshments while you learn about our healthy, whole food lunch program. Let your kids get a taste of project-based learning thru fun activities and interaction with our teachers and community volunteers. We look forward to meeting you!”
That comes as the school announced last month it expects a more than 35% reduction in enrollment for K-2nd graders than it originally projected when it opened last year.
It was originally authorized to have 68 K-2nd grade students for the 2019-20 school year and up to 141 K-6th graders by 2023-24.
Those numbers have since been revised to 44 K-2nd graders for 2019-20 and 138 students by 2023-24, according to SUNY Charter Schools Institute to Homer Central School District Superintendent Thomas Turck.
The school is still on track to add a third grade next year and continue adding one grade each year until it reaches K-6 by 2023-24.
