Yesterday, September 26th, the Virgil Fire Department was alerted to a call around 8:40 in the morning for a report of a tractor trailer that had rolled over near the intersection of Route 392 and Church St. in Virgil with the truck striking a transformer.
When fire crews arrived they closed Route 392 and requested Cortland Fire Hazmat to assist with fluid containment. Responding was also National Grid and the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation. The crews then contained the spilled and leaking fluid and stood by until power was cut to safely upright the truck and remove it from the scene.
Dryden Ambulance responded to evaluate the operator of the tractor trailer.
The truck was finally up righted around 10:45am, with Cortland Fire then being cleared of the scene. Virgil Fire was cleared around 11:30am.
The debris and lost load from the tractor trailer was handed over to a hauler for cleanup.
The road officially reopened after cleanup at 3:35pm. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.
