Yesterday, police in Broome County arrested a man who shot a NYS Trooper on Wednesday night (June 9).

It happened just before 9 pm on East Windsor Road in Colesville, just a few miles south of Whitney Point.

Authorities were checking the welfare of 34-year-old Jason Johnson when he opened fire, causing non-life threatening injuries to the Trooper — later identified as seven-year member Becky Seager of SP-Binghamton.

Seager was removed from the scene by a Broome County Sheriff’s Deputy, then transported to Wilson Memorial Hospital, where she was treated for a gunshot wound to the hip.

She was later released, with a sea of law enforcement cheering her on as she left.

Following a manhunt involving multiple agencies, Johnson was taken into custody just after 4:30 pm. He was spotted by a helicopter near a river bank off State Route 79 in Colesville.

Johnson is charged with attempted murder in the first degree.

State Police thanked everyone involved for assisting them in their search.
