State Assemblywoman Barbara Lifton (D-125) penned a letter to the community during her final week in office after 18 years.

Filling her shoes will be Tompkins County legislator Anna Kelles.

She retains the Democratic seat and begins her new role this Friday at the turn of a new year.

Another pair of Albany veterans hangs it up following nearly six decades of service:

State Senator James Seward (R-51) and Assemblyman Gary Finch (R-126) will call it quits after 35 and 20 years, respectively.

Each has ongoing health concerns that only worsened this year, when both had to fight COVID-19 in the hospital just months apart.

Seward spent several days on a ventilator before recovering back in April. Finch beat the virus earlier this month.

Fellow-Republicans Peter Oberacker and John Lemondes were elected as their successors.
