The New York State Department of Transportation has announced that the Interstate 481 exit to I-81 Southbound, will close starting on Monday, September 25th at 9am until the Spring of 2025.
The DOT says the closure will be necessary for prep work for a newly constructed interchange which will convert I-481 into I-81 and then create a new Business Loop 81.
Motorists who typically use I-481 to I-81 Southbound headed towards Cortland will now have to travel briefly on I81 North before taking Exit 17 and proceeding to get on I81 South at Exit 17.
Detour signs will be in place the DOT says and drivers are asked to use caution when traveling through work zones.
