Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon & Controlled Substance Arrest in Cortland

The Cortland County Sheriff’s Office says a traffic stop was conducted on a vehicle around 8:15 last Thursday night on Port Watson Street in Cortland. The Sheriff’s Office says the reason for the stop was for an equipment violation.

During the stop and interviewing the driver, identified as 37 year old Nathan N. Craig of Cortland, officers determined Craig was driving without a license. A further investigation also found him to be in possession of an illegal weapon and multiple controlled substances.

Craig was arrested and charged with Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd, a Felony, 2 Counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, a Misdemeanor, and multiple violations.

He was transported to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and was later arraigned the following morning via the Centralized Arraignment Process. Craig was released on his own recognizance. He is due in Cortland City Court next month.
