Traffic Stop Leads to Felony DWI in City of Cortland – Suspect Kicks Officer

Just after 11 o’clock at night on Monday, October 16th, Cortland Police conducted a traffic stop near the intersection of Port Watson and Church Street in the City of Cortland for numerous traffic violations.

As officers interviewed the driver, identified as 38 year old Freddy A. Duarte-Ramos, was found to be intoxicated. As officers began to take Duarte-Ramos into custody, he fought and kicked the arresting officer. Officers were able to take him into custody.

Duarte-Ramos is facing charges of Felony DWI, and violations of Unlicensed Operation, Crossing Road Hazard Markings, Failure to Change Address, Improper Right Turn, and Harassment 2nd Degree.

He was later arraigned in Cortland City Court and later released. Duarte-Ramos is due to appear in Cortland City Court at a later date.
