As the Cortland County Drug Task was conducting a drug investigation, the City of Cortland Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the City of Cortland on Monday, September 25th.
During the traffic stop, the operator of the vehicle, identified as 49 year old Tammy M. Smith of Marathon, was found to have a small amount of meth in her possession. The passenger of the vehicle, identified as 35 year old Amber L. Harris of Cortland, was also found to have half an ounce of crack-cocaine, morphine, and oxycodone pills in her possession.
Officers also found a digital scale, packaging materials and an undisclosed amount of cash. The cocaine found had a street value of over $1,400, according to the Drug Task Force.
Both women were charged with 2 counts of Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, and 2 counts of Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd, Misdemeanors. Harris was also charged with Felony Criminal Possession Controlled Substance in the 3rd.
Harris and Smith were transported to the Cortland County Sheriff’s Office for processing. Smith was later released on an appearance ticket while Harris was arraigned in Cortland City Court and remanded to Cortland County Jail on no bail.
The County Drug Task Force says the investigation remains ongoing and further charges are pending.
