Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Bust – Officers Find Molly, And Cocaine

Just after 1:30 in the afternoon on Thursday, February 22nd a traffic stop was conducted by the City of Cortland Police Department with the assistance of the Cortland County Drug Task force on a vehicle on River Street within the city.


During the traffic stop, a passenger of the vehicle, identified as 46 year old Jason M. Schermerhorn of Cortland, had an active warrant for his arrest.

As Schermerhorn was being taken into custody officers say he was found to be in possession of nearly 122 grams of Molly, 4 grams of cocaine, psilocybin, packaging material, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

On top of being arrested for his warrant, Schermerhorn was additionally charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 3rd, a Felony, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 7th, Criminally Using Drug Paraphernalia in the 2nd, both Misdemeanors.

He was taken to the Sheriff’s Office for processing and was later arraigned via the Centralized Arraignment Process (CAP) and remanded to Cortland County Jail on no bail. He is due in Cortland City Court this Friday.

The Drug Task Force says the value of the drugs found was $3,666 for the Molly and $400 for the cocaine.
