As of 8:30 am Thursday, June 16th I81 Northbound is now open between exits 10 and 11.
New York State Police have officially reported the contents of the trailer were pesticides and cooking oil, which spilled into the Tioughnioga River.
New York State Police have announced the truck driver, 47 year old Alexandr Gorski of Philadelphia, PA has been arrested for Driving While Intoxicated. He was given appearance tickets and released to a sober 3rd party.
Troopers say that as of 9:20 p.m., the northbound lanes between exits 10 and 11 are shutdown. DEC spill response is on scene, Cortland Sheriff’s Deputies, Cortland City Police, State Fire and numerous fire agencies are on scene.
The investigation is ongoing.

It was around 7:30 pm this evening reports came in of a tractor trailer that had rolled over north of Exit 10 (McGraw/Cortlandville) on I81 in the northbound lanes on the overpass that crosses the Tioughnioga River.

New York State Police responded, along with the City of Cortland Fire Department. Homer and Cortlandville Fire were also called for mutual aid.
The truck was reportedly carrying vegetable oil.
Traffic was backed up for miles before emergency officials worked to turn vehicles and trucks around to exit using the U-Turn to get back on the southbound lane.
Currently, the City of Cortland Fire Department’s Hazmat team is working to contain the spill of vegetable oil to prevent it from entering the river.
Also assisting on scene is Morey’s Towing.
The driver was reportedly not injured in the crash.
