The driver of a delivery truck was sent to Upstate early this morning (September 5), following a head-on collision with a tractor trailer on State Highway 12 near Phetteplace Road in Norwich.

Troopers responded to the scene just before 5:00 this morning and say their investigation revealed that a 42-year-old Chittenango man was driving south in a delivery truck on State Highway 12, when it crossed over striking a tractor trailer head-on.

The driver of the tractor trailer, a 45-year-old Lisle male, made an attempt at avoiding the collision, but was unable to.

His trailer caught on fire immediately after impact, but thankfully he did not suffer any injuries.

The driver of the delivery van was brought to Wilson Memorial and later moved to Upstate for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

A detour in both directions was in place for several hours, until police could clear the scene and reopen the roadway shortly before noon.

More information will be released as it is made available. The accident remains under investigation.
