Town of Homer to Hold Public Hearing Tomorrow On Proposed Law Regarding Unsafe Structures and Property Within Town

The Town of Homer will hold a public hearing prior to their meeting tomorrow night, August 14th, at 6:30 at the Homer Town Hall. The public hearing is in regards to a proposed local law regarding unsafe structures and property within the Town of Homer.

The Town of Homer says those who would like to speak on the matter during the public hearing may do so either in-person, by an attorney, or by another representative. Comments done in writing are asked to be submitted prior to the meeting tomorrow.

The proposed law would require owners of properties, buildings, or structures, be required to have them either secured, repaired, or removed/demolished. Reasoning for the law is to ensure the health and safety, but also the protection of residents in the Town of Homer.

“Debris, waste, sewage, rubble, or parts of buildings left on the ground or in disrepair and not removed constitute a dangerous, unhealthy, and unsightly condition.”

The Town of Homer said in the purpose and intent of the law.

Enforcement will be done by the Town of Homer’s Code Enforcement Officer or any other such person that is appointed by the Town Board.
