The Homer Town Board Wednesday night approved the launch of a new online tax payment system.
Instead of mailing or dropping off a check, taxpayers can make payment online via credit card or e-check.
The new system will let taxpayers check on when their payment was accepted.
A third party, Payment Processing Consultants, will handle each transaction for a small fee.
Town Clerk Anita Jebbett says residents will still be able to make partial payments if needed. Her system will be available soon through the Town of Homer website.
The Town of Virgil is also ready to use this online payment service.
The Homer Town Board approved another example of shared services at its meeting Thursday.
Homer is buying an asphalt roller in partnership with the Town of Truxton.
Although the towns are sharing the cost and the use of the roller, they shopped second-hand and got one previously enjoyed at a nice price.
This is the time of year Town Highway Superintendents have to prepare a list of road work (A 284 Plan) that’s being considered for the coming year.
Homer’s John Phelps mentioned a few streets that could get some attention which is usually of interest to residents.
Phelps said he is considering work on Rice Hill Road, White Bridge Circle, a stretch of Brake Hill Road and Foster Road.
This doesn’t mean they all will be rebuilt – the list includes streets needing repairs and resealing.
