Town of Homer Announces Public Comment Meeting For Tomorrow Regarding Homer’s Comprehensive Plan and Zoning to Allow Billboards Along I81

Tomorrow at 6pm at the Town of Homer Senior Center in the basement of the Homer Town Hall will be a public comment meeting to allow residents to voice their concerns and/or opinions regarding the Town of Homer amending the comprehensive plan and zoning to allow billboards along I81.

The Town of Homer says all interested parties will be heard during the public comment meeting with a sign-up sheet available at the Town Clerk’s Office and prior to the meeting. All speakers will be called in the order they have signed up with two minutes allotted to each speaker. Any residents who prefer to submit a written comment are encouraged to do so.

“Following the public comment session, the Town Board may consider a motion to either move forward with or stop the requested comprehensive plan and zoning amendments. There will be additional opportunities for public comments in the future if the Board votes to move forward with the process.” The Town of Homer said in a Public Notice.

The Town of Homer also noted if a vote to move forward does occur in tomorrow’s meeting, it will only be the beginning of the planning and zoning process, not a done deal.

“An affirmative vote will authorize the Board to initiate the SEQR process, consider potential Comprehensive Plan and Local Law amendments, and initiate associated reviews with County Planning, DOT, and any other involved agencies.” the notice continued.

A final vote on any type of amendment would be held at a future date with additional public comment meetings being held prior to the vote.
