Town of Cortlandville Extends Solar Ban – Mulls Special Meeting End of April

The Cortlandville Town Board unanimously approved a 60-day extension of a moratorium on solar energy systems during its meeting Wednesday evening.

The original moratorium, enacted in October, was set for six months and scheduled to expire April 9. The extension gives the town additional time to review and finalize regulations.

The board also tabled a proposed amendment to the town code regarding solar energy systems, along with a local law that would repeal and replace Chapter 64 governing battery energy storage systems. A separate moratorium on battery energy storage systems remains in effect.

Town Attorney Fran Casullo said the board may consider holding a special meeting on April 29. He noted that the town’s regularly scheduled April meetings—on April 1 and April 15—leave a significant gap before the next meeting on May 6, just one day before the battery storage moratorium is set to expire.

Casullo added that a late-April meeting would give the Solar and Battery Energy Storage System Committee time to finalize proposed laws. The Town Board could then vote on one or both measures at that time.

Councilman Glenn Reisweber, who serves on the committee, said the special meeting is something residents can plan for.

The board is expected to formally consider scheduling the special meeting at its April 1 meeting.
