Town of Cortlandville Enters Into Agreement with Cortland Schools For New Fire Hydrant at Barry School
The Cortlandville Town Board has approved the Cortland Enlarged City School District to perform work on a town road in order to install a new fire hydrant at Barry Primary. Barry is currently undergoing major renovations where the building will be required to be brought up to current code, including state fire code.
According to Cortland Schools, the NYS Fire Code requires the district to build a new fire access road and an additional fire hydrant. With this requirement, the school is required to connect the new hydrant to the town’s water supply via a water main underneath Isabel Drive.
Cortlandville Town Attorney, Fran Casullo, says it’s a 2-year guarantee with the district. In that timeframe, the district will cut-up a portion of Isabel Drive in order to connect the new water line for the fire hydrant, but Casullo says it is also subject to the repair work meeting Highway Superintendent Larry Drach’s approval. The district will also be required to notify Drach when works begin.
No specific date of when work is expected to begin. Councilperson Guido abstained from the vote, citing his employment with the district. Remaining members of the town board all voted in favor.
