During yesterday’s Town of Cortlandville board meeting, which took place at the Gutchess Sports Complex off of Route 13 in the Town of Cortlandville. A dedication ceremony was held.
The popular playground at the park for many children and families. Was constructed thanks in part to a donation from the Yaman Foundation.
“He (Jim) was always interested in the kids and the community. The things that he did quietly, and didn’t want praise, didn’t want recognition, didn’t want any of that he just did it.” Town Supervisor Tom Williams Said during the ceremony.
The town dedicated the park to the late Jim Yaman. Jim’s children, David and Paul were there to reveal the placard that stands next to the playground.
Jim Yaman was monumental in the creation of Yaman Park by donating the land to the City of Cortland in 1969 for the park with the only request from the City for the park to be named after his father, Dieb Yaman.
