Town of Cortlandville Awarded $500K Towards New Town Well
The Town of Cortlandville has been awarded $500,000 towards the development of a new town well which will be located at 3111 Byrne Hollow Crossing. The project was one of 48 throughout the state that were awarded funding in the first round of the County Infrastructure Grant Program.
Cortlandville Town Supervisor as well as Town Attorney Casullo both thanked the support the town received from the Cortland County Planning Department in their assistance in applying for the grant during their Tuesday meeting.
According to a release by the Governor’s Office, the development and construction of the new well for the town will enhance the current water supply and will allow for future industrial, commercial, and residential growth along the busy Route 13 Corridor.
“Investing in local infrastructure projects generates new opportunities to increase housing and support sustainable economic development. The grants awarded through this program will enable counties across the state to address critical community needs that would not otherwise happen, promoting local and regional growth.”
Empire State Development President, CEO and Commissioner Hope Knight said in a release.
The Town of Cortlandville has been working on adding another well since Byrne Dairy revealed their plans for a mult-phase multi-year expansion of their facility off of Route 13. Byrne is donating the land the well will be constructed to the town; they also paid for the testing of the land to see if the well would be suitable in the location.
Cortlandville applied for the grant for up to $1 million dollars through the County Infrastructure Grant Program. The town is responsible to match the grant awarded, in this case $500,000. The town has not had a new well installed in about 15 years, Town Attorney Fran Casullo noted during a previous town meeting. He also added the town has needed another well even before Byrne announced their expansion plans.
