Tops merger includes sale of Route 281 Cortland store

Price Chopper/Market 32 and Tops Markets have completed a merger proposed earlier this year.

The two companies combine to nearly double their footprint in the Northeast, with around 300 stores.

However, it will now create some change for area shoppers in Cortland.

Under the regulatory review process by the FTC, the merged company must divest itself of 12 Tops stores (11 in New York and one in Vermont).

Each of the dozen — which includes the location on Route 281 in Cortland — will be sold to C&S Wholesale Grocers; and run by C&S affiliate GU Markets LLC.

C&S officials say they will “continue to recognize the union workforce at these locations.”
