Tompkins D-A Says No Criminal Charges Will Be Filed in Simeons Crash

Local News

The Tompkins County DA’s Office has wrapped up the investigation into a fatal crash on the Ithaca Commons last summer. The driver who crashed into a bistro killing a bartender will not face criminal charges.

Tompkins County D-A Gwen Wilkinson says her office will not file additional charges against the truck driver. 37-year-old Viacheslav Grychanyi has pleaded guilty to several traffic violations in connection with the June 2014 crash.

Grychanyi was behind the wheel of a tractor-trailer that crashed into the Simeon’s restaurant. 27-year-old Amanda Bush of Lansing was working at the restaurant at the time she was killed in the crash. Several other people were injured as well.

Grychanyi pled guilty to speeding, having defective brakes, and two counts of having an over-length vehicle. He paid over $1900 in fines and faces additional civil lawsuits.

Wilkinson said a thorough investigation did not support criminal charges.
