Tompkins County’s Largest Solar Energy Project Now Complete

Local News

Governor Cuomo announced Friday that the largest community solar project in Tompkins County has been completed and is fully operational.

Located in the Town of Enfield, 373 households, as well as a local church, are now benefitting from the 2.3-megawatt solar array, which includes over 6,800 solar panels on 13 acres of land.

Experts say the new technology will reduce greenhouse gases by over 1,400 metric tons annually, the equivalent of removing over 300 cars from the road.

The project supports Governor Cuomo’s mandate for half of all New York’s electricity consumed to come from renewable energy sources by 2030
