Tompkins County Whole Health Issues Alert on E. Coli Outbreak Linked to Organic Carrots
A health alert has been issued by Tompkins County Whole Health (TCWH) regarding a recall on organic carrots that are linked to an E. Coli outbreak. TCWH says the recall affects multiple sizes and brands of both organic carrots and baby carrots which have been sold at multiple stores in the region including Wegmans, Trader Joe’s, Tops, and GreenStar.
The carrots have been linked to an outbreak of E. Coli from Grimmway Farms. A complete list of the affected products may be found HERE. TCWH says if you have a product that is affected by the recall, do not consume and are asked to throw it away. Washing or cooking will not reduce the risk of E. Coli.
One case of the E. Coli outbreak has been reported in Tompkins County. New York has 5 reported cases and 39 overall nationally with one death.
“E. coli is a type of bacterial infection that causes a form of food poisoning. Symptoms of an E. coli infection include severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, fever, nausea, and/or vomiting. Symptoms begin anywhere from a few days after consuming contaminated food or up to nine days later.”
TCWH said in a release.
