Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office Receives NYS Accreditation
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office received a Certificate of Accreditation for their Law Enforcement Division on Thursday, September 12th.
The certificate was presented to Sheriff Derek Osborne, Undersheriff Jennifer Olin, and Lieutenant Kyle Koskinen, who were all invited to the NYS Division of Criminal Justice Services in Albany. To receive such an accreditation, an agency must be proficient in its administrative, training, and operational proceedings, and the Tompkins County office exceeded in each category. Only one in three law enforcement agencies in New York State have the accreditation – and the Sheriff’s Office is the only agency in Tompkins County to have received it.
“Accreditation has been a goal of our administration for the past 6 years, and achieving it is a testament to our commitment to serve our community to the best of our ability,” said Sheriff Osborne, also crediting Undersheriff Olin for her role as the program manager. “Without her, none of this could have happened.”
The accreditation will be recognized until it expires on September 11th, 2029. Tompkins County‘s Corrections Division too received a re-accreditation by means of a program established by the NYS Sheriff’s Association.
