The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office was recently featured in a new NFL commercial, which is set to air this season on all the national networks.
Antoine Bethea and Michael Thomas — both players on the New York Giants — visited for a May 2019 meeting with the Vera Institute, Tompkins County police and other members of local law enforcement.
Snippets of their exchange were featured in a 30-second video spot that will be seen across the country on CBS, NBC, FOX and ESPN.
The feature is part of a larger campaign by the League to promote positive community-police relations.
“Since being elected, Sheriff Derek R. Osborne and his team have been working closely with the Vera Institute for Justice,” said Megan Cook, Executive Assistant to the Sheriff. “The Vera Institute, the Sheriff, and the Tompkins County Legislature Public Safety Committee have a shared desire to drive change and to urgently build and improve justice systems that ensure fairness, promote safety, and strengthen communities.”
