Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne is warning Tompkins County residents of a text scam going around regarding a payment for taking part in a survey with a click-thru link.
The Sheriff’s Office says this is a scam and has no relation to the organization it says it is part of.
The text of the scam reads: “Tompkins County residents share your opinions in an in person focus group and be paid 300 dollars. Interested? Fill out a qualifying survey survey here (link) We will follow up with a phone call from a 423 area code. Thanks!”
Tompkins County is conducting a strategic planning survey from residents, but the work is not related to the text message scam. Residents who would like to participate in the actual survey can click HERE.
