The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department has announced that they will be hosting a virtual public forum on Tuesday, June 21st at 12pm.
The forum will let the department inform the public on the unarmed pilot program, and also introduce the Sheriff’s Clerks who will be handling the calls included in the program.
During the public forum members of the public will be able to ask questions or bring concerns they may have.
“The program is intended to both assess the effectiveness and outcomes of unarmed responses to certain call types and free up time for Sheriff’s Deputies to respond to emergency calls, complete investigations, and build more relationships with members of the community.” The department stated in a press release.
