A Tompkins County man is facing multiple charges, he’s accused of assaulting a woman on Sunday.
Tompkins County Sheriff’s Deputies say they responded to a home in Enfield Sunday morning for a report of a man with a gun making threats to kill people there.
Officers say the suspect was identified as 23-year-old Clifton T. Clarke of Newfield.
As police arrived they spotted Clarke walking from the home with a woman and small child.
Clarke refused to surrender and ran. After a short foot chase, Clarke was apprehended.
Police say Clarke assaulted a 49-year-old woman. He’s accused of choking the woman and threatening her with a 12 gauge shotgun.
The woman was treated for undisclosed injuries.
Clarke was charged with felony counts of reckless endangerment and unlawful imprisonment. He also faces misdemeanor charges of criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation, menacing, assault, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child.
Clarke was arraigned and sent to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail or $400,000 secured bond.
