The Tompkins County Health Department is reporting a spike in sexually transmitted diseases.
Health officials says between January and July of this year cases of chlamydia, gonorrhea and syphilis increased.
The increases were reported among women and men from ages 18 to 55, as well as a number of people also diagnosed with HIV.
Department officials say many of the reported cases are coming from people who admitted to having anonymous sexual encounters arranged through internet sites and phone apps.
They say the best course of action is to get tested and use protection. The department has also created a website for people seeking information.
