Tompkins County Correctional Officer Assaulted

On Friday, July 1st around 3:20pm a Tompkins County inmate severely assaulted a Tompkins County Corrections officer.

The officer, who was delivering cleaning supplies to the inmate after he intentionally flooded his cell, attacked the correctional officer unprovoked as the officer was handing them the cleaning supplies.

The officer was taken to Cayuga Medical Center for treatment.

The inmate, 24 year old Abraham Phelan was currently being held for a class A misdemeanor of Forcible touching out of the City of Ithaca.

After the assault Phelan was charged with assault in the second degree, a felony. He was remanded to Tompkins County Jail on $30,000 cash bail.

The condition of the corrections officer was not released.
