Two people who decided to exploit the swollen Tioughnioga River went tubing Saturday afternoon.
A passerby spotted them near the City of Cortland wastewater treatment plant and called 9-1-1 thinking they were in distress.
Firefighters from Cortlandville, Sheriff’s deputies, and TLC Ambulance crews scrambled downriver to look for the tubers.
The city of Cortland Fire Department was asked to deploy its rescue boats. (see photo)
It turns out the tubers took a short – no doubt chilly ride – and got out part way to Blodgett Mills.
Call it good practice. We can take comfort in knowing the first responders were up to the task.
