Three Victims Airlifted To Upstate Following Head-On Crash With Drunk Driver In Newfield

One man was arrested and three people airlifted to Upstate Medical Center after a drunk driver collided with them head-on in Newfield Sunday night (November 25).

New York State Police at Ithaca say the accident occurred on Shaffer Road in the town of Newfield.

An investigation determined that 27-year-old Andrew Sampson, of Horseheads, NY crossed a double yellow line in his Dodge Ram pick-up truck and struck a Ford Fusion head-on before coming to rest on its side.

Three people, a 31-year-old male of Newfield, 24-year-old female of Enfield and 62-year-old female of Newfield were in the Fusion that was struck by Sampson. All three were flown by helicopter to Upstate Medical and have serious injuries.

Sampson was arrested and charged with several crimes, including a felony Vehicular Assault charge.

He was arraigned in the town of Newfield Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail on $3,000 cash bail or $6,000 property bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for this Thursday.
