Three people were arrested on the Ithaca Commons after a fight early Saturday (April 6) morning created a late-night scene that was nothing short of chaotic.
The Ithaca Police Department says several of its uniformed Officers were on foot patrol on the Ithaca Commons just past 1 a.m. Saturday, when they witnessed 26-year-old Cadji Furgeson run across the street and strike another male in the face, knocking him to the ground.
When Police approached Ferguson and tried to arrest him, they say 22-year-old Rose Degroat attacked an officer from behind repeatedly striking him in the head. She then struck a second officer in the face before she was taken into custody.
That incident drew a crowd of bystanders in the street, some of whom Police say attempted various forms of interference in their attempts to make their arrests. Still, after all of that, only one additional person was arrested for Disorderly Conduct, identified as 21-year-old Riley Johnson.
All three arrested were from Ithaca. Degroat was arraigned later that morning on attempted assault charges in Ithaca City Court. She was then released to appear back on April 17.
Furgeson and Johnson were both released on appearance Tickets to return on April 24.
Because of how quickly that situation escalated, Ithaca PD was assisted at the scene by members of the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Department.
