Threatening Emails Again Sent to School Districts, & Media – Tompkins Sheriff Osborne Says
Tompkins County Sheriff Derek Osborne, says his office has again received reports of threatening emails sent to school districts, and media companies. Sheriff Osborne says the email contained threats directed towards county employees, elected officials, and local financial institutions.
The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating the threats, along with several local law enforcement agencies as well as the FBI. Sheriff Osborne added similar threats have been reported in multiple counties throughout the state with law enforcement working on identifying the source of the threats.
“Our top priority is the safety of our students, educators, and community members,” said Sheriff Derek R. Osborne. “We are maintaining open communication with our school districts and law enforcement partners as this situation develops.”
Sheriff Osborne says out of an abundance of caution, additional security measures will be implemented at local schools and those specifically named in the emails.
